"Dr. Foughty and Staff,

After five months of coming to your office for treatments, I was sharing with you how good I was going, and you asked if I would be willing to share my story. Well, I am thrilled to do so, and hope maybe it will encourage someone else.

I’m not even sure how it all started, but I had been bothered the past couple years by lower back stiffness. I pretty much ignored it and chalked it up to being over 40. Then this past fall, I had a lengthy upper respiratory infection accompanied by a severe cough that lasted for several months and recurred again a few months later despite a repeated course of antibiotics. During the months of severe coughing, my back pain worsened and started affecting every area of my life. Before I came to you, I could not bend over, had difficulty and pain getting in and out of the car, had to stop power-walking and Ty-Bo that I had been doing for several years.

I would awaken during the night and in the morning in pain and so stiff that it was difficult to move. Housework and normal routine things had become difficult, I even had to find an alternative way to put on my socks.

I considered going to my family doctor; but felt that any pain medication or muscle relaxers would be like putting a band aid on a shark bite; and would not really be a solution to the problem.

Around that same time, I met your family and decided to give chiropractic a try.

You checked me out and said that my spine was pretty badly subluxated, even to the point of degenerative disc disease; and that it was going to be a lengthy process, but that you thought you could help me. It was slow going at first, but I always noticed improvement, even if it was in “baby steps,” it was always moving the right direction. Even with that, I had a tendency to get discouraged; because I had always been so active and in good physical shape, that it was hard for me not to be able to move for so long. Fortunately, I love to exercise, so when you gave me stretches and exercises to do, I was happy to follow orders…just one small problem…At first, I could not even get in the POSITION to do the exercise…let alone do them. But I kept trying and just as you said, I was gradually able to do more and more, and after five months, have worked myself up to full aerobic workouts, power-walking, bike riding, ty-bo, and even playing tennis. Thank you much for your encouragement to keep pressing on.

In addition to the back pain and stiffness, I had some other physical difficulties that have also been helped by chiropractic. I did not at first understand the relationship between the spine and the rest of the body, but seeing it happen in my own life, learning about it from you, and the things I have read have really helped me to understand. I think now I have probably needed chiropractic my whole life, but it took not being able to move to get me there.

Other benefits that I have had (and I think there are some I have not discovered yet) from chiropractic include:

Mild bladder control problems – gone.

Severe cystic acne – I’m still using a topical solution, but have had no new breakouts.

I have not gotten a cold, sniffle, sore throat, cough…nothing…even though being exposed and in contact with a sick husband on our honeymoon!

My strength and overall energy level is improved. I still have a way to go to regain the flexibility I had before, but I feel that I will get there.

In the last couple months, my husband has developed pain and loss of mobility in his shoulder from a weight lifting injury. He is now seeing Dr. Foughty, and even though the shoulder is being persistently problematic – I feel certain that this too will be solved eventually. Meanwhile, he is noticing the benefits of chiropractic are in other areas.
